Assignment: Imitate a designer in the form of a cube
Role: Industrial Designer &#38; Visual Communication Designer

&#60;img src="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584626/Zaha1_1.jpg" width="670" height="430" width_o="670" height_o="430" src_o="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584626/Zaha1_1_o.jpg" data-mid="27553035"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Project:
A study of form as function this cube and brochure were designed to imitate the formal language of a key architect, Zaha Hadid in both three- and two-dimensions. Hadid shatters both the classically formal, rule-bound modernism of Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier and the old rules of space – walls, ceilings, front and back, right angles. She then reassembles them as what she calls “a new fluid, kind of spatiality” of multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry, designed to embody the chaotic fluidity of modern life.

		<description>School: University of Washington
Assignment: A ten-week sponsored project by Microsoft Research developed around the theme “Health and Wellness.”
Sponsor: Microsoft Research
Role: Design Researcher &#38; Interaction Designer

&#60;img src="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584585/Pollenteering1.jpg" width="670" height="500" width_o="670" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584585/Pollenteering1_o.jpg" data-mid="27552940"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Project:
The Pollenteering Network introduces a distributed, proximity based event scheduling, locating, and sharing system.

Our approach was to address how we can improve the health and wellness of the community at large. Which, in turn, benefits the individual. By integrating positive activity into people’s daily routines and activities, our group’s mission is to leverage the desire to help people improve their environment, community and themselves. The Pollenteering Network consists of dynamic community information hubs that distribute opportunities (or pollen) for volunteer activity. People interact with the network by using their cell phones as information “magnets”, grabbing appropriate opportunities according to their interests and geographically relevant communities.

Our design empowers individuals to take responsibility for their community by affording them new opportunities to positively affect the communities they inhabit.

Signs are placed in various locations throughout a community and have three major functions for the Pollenteering Network. First, they act as hubs for displaying real time volunteer events that only relate to that community. Second, the signs are an entry point into engagement in the Pollenteering Network. Finally, the signs act as transmitters of the volunteer opportunities or “pollen”.

Like bees collecting pollen on a flower, users collect opportunities through proximity to the sign. A system that empowers the individual as a contributor to the greater community.

This project was chosen to represent the University of Washington at Microsoft’s 2007 Design Expo for presentation and demonstration.

		<description>School: University of Washington
Assignment: A ten-week sponsored project by the Boeing Flight Deck Concept Center for the purpose of creating new “sky-high” ideas for the future of aviation.
Sponsor: Boeing Flight Concept Center
Role: Design Researcher &#38; Interaction Designer

&#60;img src="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584502/PFD1.jpg" width="670" height="500" width_o="670" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584502/PFD1_o.jpg" data-mid="27552927"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Project:
This project was used as an introduction to the interaction design challenges in aviation. Emphasis was placed on research, ideation and out-of-the-box thinking to develop possible concepts for the “cockpit of the future.” Through research and our contacts at Boeing, we discovered that the windows in the cockpit are large engineering obstacles that with precision technology could be eliminated. As a class we decided to design a window-less cockpit where individual teams worked on different aspects of this design. This project focuses on the Primary Flight Display (PFD).

Objectives:
1. Expand visual flying while maintaining the support of monitoring instruments.
2. Provide more awareness of weather factors, surrounding terrain and obstacles along with awareness and assessment of approach hazards.
3. Provide pilots with the opportunity to use the prediction of time to their advantage, which may be critical in decision making.

Our design turns the Primary Flight Display into a 360 degree immersive display. Six cameras equipped with infrared technology are located on the front, back, sides, bottom, and tail of the airplane serving not only as the feed for the projection, but also to visually verify plane functions (aka. engines, wings, landing gear. etc). To capitalize on the flexibility this arrangement provides, the layout of the display changed to include additional environmental factors: weather conditions, air traffic, time, and flight path waypoints to allow for a higher level of precision and efficiency.

Oresis is designed to take on one of the most common hazards in the United States: floods. Dispersed in small groups to a designated search region, Oresis is a search and rescue robot equipped with sensors, RFID tags, and GPS to read the water current, temperature, and contents while relaying the information back to a remote control where rescue workers monitor its progress. A victim is able to communicate with a rescue worker through the robot’s built in intercom. This allows the rescuer to determine the health status of the victim and if needed, trigger the robot will deploy a self-inflating flotation device fitted with an RFID tag to locate the victim.

		<description>School: University of Washington
Assignment: This is the outcome of my capstone project completed in the Design Studies program at the University of Washington, Seattle. The capstone project is a five-month long individual project that addresses issues of theory and practice in the design field.
Role: Design Researcher &#38; Interaction Designer

&#60;img src="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584489/CollabStudio1.jpg" width="670" height="500" width_o="670" height_o="500" src_o="http://payload14.cargocollective.com/1/5/176263/2584489/CollabStudio1_o.jpg" data-mid="27552883"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

Project:
Collab.Studio is a conceptualized collaborative design tool developed to organize and support communication, coordination, and cooperation for individuals, teams, projects, and organizations collectively.

For use on an extranet, collab.studio seeks to create a place for exchanging and sharing information, ideas, and concerns while affording team members the ability to reach a consensus together and providing the context and situation of the a project as a whole.

Intentions:
1 Define participants and their tasks in the design process while supporting four levels of communication: individual, group, project, and organization in order to promote interactions among participants.
2 Define a data dependency based on a combination of the reference, documentation, project management, and communication system allowing information to be generated, stored, and shared.
3 Trace the status or progress of a project visually to detect possible communication pitfalls.
4 Enhance personal identity and team awareness in the process by demonstrating participants’ presence.
